From spring 2009 to summer 2011, I was a reporter at The News Leader, a century-old daily newspaper in Staunton, VA. I was hired as a multimedia and roving reporter, but was also assigned to the agriculture and community beats. Basically, I did a lot of general assignment feature reporting.
This job was pretty fantastic, giving me freedom to drive the gorgeous roads of the Shenandoah Valley and interview interesting people. But a downside was that newsleader.com didn’t preserve URLs for individual stories, and the archive is bulky and complicated. Most past stories have disappeared from their website, including mine.
For that reason, I’m posting some of my stories here.
