Postcard: A taste of beef in South Korea (October 19, 2008)

During a trip to South Korea, I noticed signs on many restaurants assuring potential customers that their beef was not from the United States. This baffled me, as America’s beef export industry is enormous. It turns out, there was a huge national fear that American beef carried mad cow disease. (It sounded as strange to me as the fear of fan death.) Without access to a translator, however, I filed a food postcard for NPR about karbi.
