For years, Wyoming was roiling with anticipation of the release of Wyoming Whiskey, the first whiskey legally distilled in the state since Prohibition. Governor Matt Mead’s brother Brad, Brad’s wife Kate, and attorney David DeFazio plucked former Maker’s Mark master distiller to create the bourbon, and it sold out immediately when it hit the market… But after the initial hype died down, I talked to bourbon lovers about the product to find out what they really thought.
“Craft breweries and distilleries are hot right now. Not to be outdone, Wyoming entrepreneurs created a bourbon distillery in Kirby, using local ingredients from the Bighorn Basin and bearing the name Wyoming Whiskey. After four years of aging the first batch, Wyoming Whiskey flew off the shelves when it was released exclusively in Wyoming in early December. Wyoming Public Radio’s Rebecca Martinez visited the distillery and explored the hype. She filed this report.”
